I went into BestBuy tonight to pick up a mouse pad, Iron Man DVD, and an LCD TV for my office. I haven’t been into BestBuy much as of late because of all the stuff I have seen on the poor customer service, bad pricing and poor management. Tonight I decided to go back in since I just had dinner at a restaurant right next door.

I thought it was pretty cool to see an Apple mini story in this Best Buy and it reminded me I needed to pick up a 3G dock for my iPhone. So I looked around for a bit and finally found it. But something looked a little weird. It was priced $49.99. I was thinking to myself, that can’t be right. So I took out my iPhone and looked it up on the Apple store and it was $29. I went to the guy in the phone department asking him if this was a mix up and to check the price. He did and said it was $49.99. I told him that isn’t right because the Apple store has it for $29 and he told me “You must be looking at the G2, this is the 3G, its new of course its going to be more.” Then I showed him the page and price that I pulled up. He shut up and sat down.

So I lug everything to customer service to show the manager and told him I am here to buy all this stuff but they have to fix the price on the dock before I buy the rest of it. Of course he said no. “We don’t price match from online sources”, he said. I walked out.

That’s my last time I am going into a BestBuy.

This piece of technology is amazing. Thats it, just completely amazing. I have found very few things I would like to see different on it. The thing most I would like to see is a landscape keyboard for every application, not just Safari.

I know there is an SDK coming out for it some time in the near future so I am not bitching about what is NOT there, but enjoying every piece that is there. YouTube was done fantastic. I enjoy browsing websites on it as well. For instance, I will go in my sons room and talk to him while he is playing WoW and surf the web on the iPhone. Last night he was asking where something was and I just looked it up on wowwiki and got it right there. Beautiful!

I do wish at&t would improve the speeds of their network. There is a survey going around about that for iPhone users, and I had to give low grades on data performance.

All in all, this has to go just a tad bit above my MacBook Pro for my favorite ‘gadget’ right now.

I am loving the phone so far and sure I will stay loving it. It is so much easier and nicer than a blackberry. It just needs 3rd party apps now. I would love to see VNC and a cisco VPN client.

Here I was just sitting here listening to the audio stream with the live update from macrumors.com running as well. First the game announcement, that was pretty cool and happy to see that. Everyone that is upset about them using a ‘wrapping’ technology needs to get over it. There was no lie by anyone. I never heard native code, all that was announce by EA is they were bringing those games to the Mac and they did. Now performance and stability is in question but you have to wait and see for that.

It’s always fantastic to see Carmack. The demo looked and sounded great and I never doubt the ability of Id software.

Now the features of leopard Steve showed off. I really like the ‘new’ desktop and stacks but it does look like Vista a bit. I am not saying they copied but there is not a big difference anymore. We all wanted a new Finder, we got one… not sure if it is what we wanted though. It looks more of a cosmetic change and not what people wanted by putting some features found in Path Finder. Coverflow is nice with the preview feature but it seems the Finder didn’t get much more in functionality like I hoped. Quicklook looked pretty nice and I look forward to playing around with that.

Pretty much everything else that was shown was just stuff that was shown last time.

I knew this was going to be mostly about Leopard but some of these super top secret features left a lot to be desired. When you make a statement like Jobs did at the last keynote where there are super top-secret features, your mind begins to wonder. So is this really the media monster that has been created by us or is Apple not nearly as innovative as they used to be. One more choice… is the iPhone causing Apple to lose focus on OS X for the Mac?

Safari for Windows is nice but I am not a fan of Safari for the Mac. I did try it for Windows and found it had the same issues I don’t like on the Mac side. Now the real reason Safari is on Windows isn’t for the users, it is for the developers who want to create iPhone apps.

My problem with this thing is there were no desktop upgrades. They didn’t have to be in the keynote. They could have been in the store refresh or the day after. Maybe this week. With EA announcing games for OS X the hardware needs to be kicked up some. If any companies are going to be serious about putting games on the Mac then Apple needs to get serious about the video cards it offers. This two year old graphics hardware is not going to cut it. That is my major problem so far with Apple. I have been waiting for a Mac Pro refresh to get one. They are almost a year old. Adding a BTO option for the Octo-CPU doesn’t count as a refresh.

Anyway, just some of my thoughts about WWDC.

I know the Gameboy Advance is nearing its life span. What a long life it had too. You would think that a system that is still being sold and still has games and such a large user base would have plenty of accessories available in the video game section of any store or even specialized stores like GameSpot. Not the case.

My 3yo son picked up one of my Gameboys and started playing a Super Mario game. So I also wanted to start playing the Gameboy with him so we can sit with each other and laugh and play together. The game I started playing was Yu Gi Oh 2006. In there in order to get cards you have to play an extreme amount of ‘duels’. To me, that isn’t fun. I just wanna put together fun decks and try them out. So I wanted to get a gameshark so I can unlock all the cards and start playing the way I want.

I went to Wal-mart to pick up a GBA gameshark. Nope they didn’t have one. I could expect that, so I went to Toys ‘R’ us next. They didn’t have one either. Something I noticed at both stores was they didn’t have hardly anything for the GBA. However they had the GBA in stock and plenty of games. Next I went to Gamestop. Surely they would have something. Nope, I was kind of shocked. Well, with only 8 minutes before 9pm, I shot across the street to Best Buy as a last chance. No, nothing. I was even more shocked and quite pissed.

I look back and lately anything I want to get isn’t anywhere locally. I don’t live in ‘BFE’ either. There are a few hundred thousand people in my area and it is the fastest growing area in Florida for the past 20 years. Is the internet to blame? I really don’t know but it sure seems that way. Every time this happens I come home and order what I want within 5 minutes. I would really like the satisfaction of going to the store however and actually coming home with the product I went out to get.

It has come to my attention that I may need a new name since I am going to be writing software for the Mac platform. I spoke to a few attorneys the other and the last one told me it is a good idea to do so. While it may not be completely needed, it is worth doing so if Apple does say something I don’t have to scramble to find a new name fast. So if anyone has any ideas, please drop me a line. The problem is I want the domain as well.

I just downloaded and installed the app Coda from Panic. I am really tired of using Dreamweaver. I was looking for a light weight editing app that had a beautiful set of features and this fit the bill. I really suggest everyone gives it a shot. The only thing I can see people complaining about is that it isn’t a wysiwyg editor. It isn’t billed to be so if you need a wysiwyg app, this isn’t for you.

Lord of the Rings. One of the greatest fantasy stories of all time. Now Online. After seeing how WoW can take over your life I am very cautious on trying out a new MMO. However after playing the beta, I am EXTREMELY impressed. Everything you hate about WoW seems to be fixed and changed for this game. The developers are spending equal time on solo content as raid content to keep the casual gamer involved. If anyone is sick of the crap that goes on in WoW, then you need to check out Lord of the Rings Online.
