05.24.07Internet – killing the local store?

I know the Gameboy Advance is nearing its life span. What a long life it had too. You would think that a system that is still being sold and still has games and such a large user base would have plenty of accessories available in the video game section of any store or even specialized stores like GameSpot. Not the case.

My 3yo son picked up one of my Gameboys and started playing a Super Mario game. So I also wanted to start playing the Gameboy with him so we can sit with each other and laugh and play together. The game I started playing was Yu Gi Oh 2006. In there in order to get cards you have to play an extreme amount of ‘duels’. To me, that isn’t fun. I just wanna put together fun decks and try them out. So I wanted to get a gameshark so I can unlock all the cards and start playing the way I want.

I went to Wal-mart to pick up a GBA gameshark. Nope they didn’t have one. I could expect that, so I went to Toys ‘R’ us next. They didn’t have one either. Something I noticed at both stores was they didn’t have hardly anything for the GBA. However they had the GBA in stock and plenty of games. Next I went to Gamestop. Surely they would have something. Nope, I was kind of shocked. Well, with only 8 minutes before 9pm, I shot across the street to Best Buy as a last chance. No, nothing. I was even more shocked and quite pissed.

I look back and lately anything I want to get isn’t anywhere locally. I don’t live in ‘BFE’ either. There are a few hundred thousand people in my area and it is the fastest growing area in Florida for the past 20 years. Is the internet to blame? I really don’t know but it sure seems that way. Every time this happens I come home and order what I want within 5 minutes. I would really like the satisfaction of going to the store however and actually coming home with the product I went out to get.
